If you have ever been to the coveted Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World, one thing that would have caught your eye is the colourful fun costumes that the Cast Members wear for these events, and the fun creative bats they have.
Ask any Cast Member what their bat is called and they will tell you. We met one the last time we went and asked her. Patrick Star, she said, without missing a beat, as though we had asked her something perfectly ordinary. The Cast Members make their bats unique to them in terms of decoration.
The bat names and the fun coloured costumes worn by the Cast Members are the reason that on a MNSSHP party night the Magic Kingdom feels spookily more magical.
But are these costumes about to change?
It is being widely reported that Disney are bringing new costumes for the Cast Members for this year's MNSSHP.
The new versions feature a short sleeved dark shirt patterned with linked bones in green, red and purple, with white collar and cuffs. One pairs with dark green shorts and a bat headband, the other with dark green trousers, a belt and a purple bow tie, and from the images we have seen do not have the magic spooky wow factor of the old costumes. The only things staying are the bats. So why the change, and will it affect how the party feels in 2026?
We are not at the party this year, so we will be watching social media as the photographs come in. The first party is Friday.
And we hope somebody asks about the bats.
UPDATED 08 August 2026.
First images from this years Mickeys Not SO Scary Halloween party which started on 7th August 2026 confirm the new costumes have indeed appeared, and there are mixed views from the visitors :-(
