If you are heading to Disneyland Paris for Bastille Day this year, there is a last-minute change worth knowing about. The resort has confirmed that its 14 July nighttime show will still go ahead, but in an adapted version without any fireworks, after local authorities placed a temporary ban on pyrotechnics across the region because of the ongoing heatwave.
Why the change
With extreme heat sweeping across France and pushing up the wildfire risk, the authorities covering the Disneyland Paris area have suspended all fireworks and pyrotechnic displays. The restriction runs from Friday 10 July through to 15 July, which sadly means it lands right across the big celebration on 14 July.
What this means for the show
The good news is that it is not being cancelled. This year was due to bring an all-new Bastille Day production led by Tinker Bell, taking us on a trip around the globe through favourite Disney and Pixar stories. That show is still going ahead, only now it will rely on its drones and on projections across Sleeping Beauty Castle rather than fireworks. It had already been talked up as a major drone spectacular, so there should still be plenty to look up at.
It could still change
Disney has been clear that things may yet move again. The resort says it is continuing to monitor the weather and guidance from the local authorities, and that it may need to adapt the show further or even cancel it depending on conditions. If you are visiting for the celebration, it is well worth keeping an eye on the official Disneyland Paris channels in the days beforehand.
It is a shame to lose the fireworks on such a special night, but a sky full of drones over the castle is no small thing, and we will be keeping our fingers crossed for clear skies and a bit of a cooldown for everyone heading over.
