Getting to your Resort
When you land at Orlando International, you've basically got four options to get to your Disney resort: Mears Connect, a taxi, an Uber, or a private transfer. We've tried Mears Connect in the past and spent hours sat waiting around — not what you want after a transatlantic flight. Taxis from MCO are fine but pricey for what they are. And we've never quite trusted Uber for this kind of journey — you genuinely don't know who's going to roll up in some questionable car, and that's not how we want to start a holiday. So a couple of years back we looked into private transfers, and a company called Gearfusion came up via a few friends who had used them in the past. Two years on, and we are still booking them every single trip - and we honestly love them. Read on to find out why.
Meeting You at the Airport
The whole thing's properly organised. We usually get a message from them a couple of days before we're due to fly, then a WhatsApp from the driver just as we land. They wait for us to clear security, then meet us right there in the terminal and grab the bags.
The cars are parked close too — they've got official access, so it's not a trek across the airport to some strange field where you've forgotten which row you're in. They walk you straight out and you're on the road in minutes.
The Cars Themselves
Hubby (aka Mr Disney) loves these cars — and that's saying something. Big, generally black, though apparently there's a red one knocking about somewhere. Blacked-out windows, leather seats, the whole executive-car look. They seat seven, so with just the two of us there's no squash at all.
And the air con. Oh, the air con. After stepping out into that wall of Florida humidity, that's the thing you want more than anything — and it doesn't disappoint.
More Than Just a Taxi Driver
You don't just get a driver — you get someone genuinely interested in your trip. How was the flight, how's the family, any plans for tomorrow. You can tell when we've done a few trips now. They'll apologise for the traffic, even though they can't do anything about it, and you'll get restaurant recommendations on the way if you ask. Most of them are Disney fans themselves, which is half the fun.
The "can you slow down for the sign, please" request is met with a knowing smile every time —they've heard it before, and they get it. They know the resort area inside out too: which entrance to use, which check-in queue tends to be quicker at certain times of day, the best way round the property when traffic's bad. If you're arriving late and just want to get to your room, that local knowledge saves you real time.
Worth Every Penny
They're not cheap — but good service never is, and this is America where you're on holiday anyway. In our opinion the service is well worth it. Comfort, peace of mind, zero stress. The holiday genuinely starts the moment you get in the car, not when you finally reach your resort.
They've also got direct access to the resorts, unlike some taxis and Ubers, so they drop you right to the door rather than the nearest car park.
Not Just Airport Pickups
It's not a one-way thing either. We use them to get back to the airport at the end of the trip too, and apart from one glitch where the airport signs said one terminal and the app said the other, we always arrive in plenty of time. One less thing to stress about when I-998 is closed again.
We've also used them for a day out at Kennedy Space Center and if you've got a spare day, do it. Todd genuinely made the trip out there special, especially when we went off hunting for crocodiles. (Full Kennedy trip report coming soon.)
Two Years On, Still Booking Them
We've now used Gearfusion for every Disney trip over the past two years, and there's no reason for us to look anywhere else. Todd and the team have made what used to be the most stressful part of arriving — getting from MCO to the resort — into one of the bits we actually look forward to.
Worth knowing they don't just do airport runs either. Gearfusion can also take you out to the Disney cruise terminals if you're including a cruise as part of a split stay.
